It’s a scam, just a method of taxing innovation and extortion. It does not further innovation because many of the companies (aka patent trolls) who are suing are not firms that produce anything, just law firms or lawyers who have bought one or more badly or loosely worded patents. It might even be that their patent(s) do not really apply to you but unless you have a million dollars or more to defend yourself in court (I’ll just check down the back of the sofa), it’s a moot point.
